About Kuma Sensei
I began learning Japanese well over a decade ago as a college major. Out of all my classes, it was the one that really “clicked” with me; studying became a hobby that I genuinely enjoyed, with the goal of eventually living and working in Japan. I passed the N1 level of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and have lived in Japan for almost a decade, working in Japanese companies across a variety of projects and roles that included translation and interpretation. As a way of giving back to the community, I began this website. Japanese is such a fun language, and I absolutely love sharing my experience and knowledge of the culture. I hope it opens the same kinds of doors for you as it did for me!
If you’re totally new to Japanese, great — depending on your goals with the language, it can be a long and arduous journey, but one that will transform you for the better. While I mostly use this website to write about language and culture, along with sharing and reviewing resources, I’m currently working on creating my own materials with the help of native speakers and language professionals.
